Protaras is situated on the south-eastern fringe of Cyprus and has the blessing of the first sunrise in Europe. Protaras extends along the eastern coast and stretches for 10km from the district of ‘Kapparis’ to the location of ‘Konnos’. Hundreds of windmills grant its landscape a quaint, tranquil beauty. Fantastic beaches with crystal clear waters are found along this coast, most of them accredited with the prestigious Blue Flag status.
Fig Tree Bay, located in the popular Protaras resort boasts beautiful and fine sand with crystal clear waters. It takes its name from the fig trees found there since the 17th century. There is an uninhabited islet easily reached by swimming through the shallow waters, the location of which provides a good shelter for the rest of the beach. In 2022 it has been rewarded as one of the top 25 beaches in the world.
Green Bay is situated between the center of Protaras and the area of Cape Greko. It is particularly popular for its underwater sculpture park, attracting snorkelers and divers from around the area.
The 200-meter-long beach of Konnos, located 4 km east of the center of the popular resort of Ayia Napa, on the road between Akrotiri Greko and Protaras, is one of the most picturesque beaches on the island. The last beach that defines the border between Ayia Napa and Paralimni, Konnos is small and idyllic, covered with fine golden sand. It's calm and crystal-clear waters are protected from strong winds.
Cape Greco was designated as a National Forest Park in 1993. It is a relatively unspoiled area with great natural beauty both on land and on water. It is an oasis of tranquillity nestled midway between the resorts of Ayia Napa and Protaras. Covering an area of 385 hectares, Cape Greco is covered by a dense juniper forest. The Grecian Park hotel, the small chapel of Agioi Anargyroi, are some of the few buildings in the area. With natural rocky formations, several caves can be found with the Cyclops being one of the most popular. There are several hiking trails, bicycle tracks, and a designated picnic area. The rocky seabed and underwater caves encourage a wealth of sea life making this area a hot spot for both snorkeling and scuba diving.
The chapel is found on the Eastern side of Cape Greko and is devoted to Ayios Kosmas and Ayios Damianos, both doctors who treated and cured patients without receiving any payment. According to tradition, during one of their journeys in the area, they faced rough seas and their boat was carried away into a cave and was since turned into a chapel. Later on, a new chapel was built just above the cave and it is still used to this date for weddings and christenings.
One of the most amazing natural bridges in Cyprus. It is a masterpiece of nature. It is located on the road to the chapel of Agioi Anargyroi and is part of the nature path "sea caves".
The Pirate’s Cave is located right next to the Lovers Bridge. It is a natural cave that was once believed to had hidden treasures from the pirates. The Virgin Mary Cave is located right next to the pirate’s cave. It is named after the carved colonization of the Virgin Mary which can be found inside the cave.
Blue Lagoon is the most popular swimming stop for both private and passenger vessels that visit the area from all around the island. It is popular for its crystal-clear turquoise waters and white sandy bottom. The area is sheltered from strong winds, making it nice and calm.
